Here is a tutorial on how to add the Shadowbox modal box to your Magento powered online store. For those unfamiliar with Magento, it is the latest and greatest in open-source eCommerce software. Varian has done the online communi-tay a great service by building a shopcart the right way, from the ground up. Thanks Varian! Granted, Magento has a strong learning curve, so those unfamiliar with basic HTML, CSS, or hacking at code… beware. (more…)
I use Dreamwweaver CS3 for all of my code editing, and I currently have the pleasure of working with the new Magento Shopcart Software. While adding Shadowbox to the cart, I ran into the small problem of Magento template files that use the rare .phtml file extension. As Dreamweaver by default does not color code the syntax, it makes it difficult to read the php code that makes up the template file.
Here is how I added syntax highlighting to a specific file type that is not listed by default in Dreamweaver. (more…)
As I’ve recently become sucked into the world of Twitter, I’ve found myself searching for the best Twitter plugin for Wordpress. Here is what I’ve found
By Alex King – This plugin creates an integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account. Pull your tweets into your blog and create new tweets on blog posts and from within WordPress.
By Ricardo González – Displays yours latest tweets in your WordPress blog. Much simpler than Twitter Tools.
By Aaron D. Campbell – A widget that properly handles twitter feeds, including @username and link parsing. It supports displaying profiles images, and even lets you control whether to display the time and date of a tweet or how log ago it happened. Requires PHP5.
I decided to go with Twitter Tools as it was the most advanced. I like being able to send out a quick tweet from my sidebar at any moment.
Firefox 3 has come out and it is a thing of beauty. All of the major web developer plugins have been compatible, such as Web Developer, and Firebug. The Live Page Rank extension was the only one I use alot, that was not compatible. I have an idea it won’t be long before they update it.
Some New Features
The Navbar made a big leap to the new “AwesomeBar”. Now suggestions include a title, and allow you to delete bad URL’s that where saved by pressing Shift+Del when highlighting them. The AwesomeBar is a bit intrusive with page titles now showing as well, so you may consider reducing the number of suggestions, or even reverting back to the OldBar that is used in FF2. You can learn how to do this and more over at lifehacker.
There’s also another navbar trick to show you. With some config mods, we can have the navbar only suggest an address that has been manually typed in, and not list every site that has been visited. This is nice, as sometimes you tend to cruise on through several sites, and now your suggestions are cluttered. Lifespy shows you how to make this mod.
Overall, Firefox just gets better and better.
